If you've had your gold investments for a while, they're likely worth a lot more today than when you bought them. So, if you're in need of cash or would otherwise need to borrow money to cover an upcoming expense, selling some or all of those assets now — while prices are rising — might be the move to make.

Costco appears to have found a revenue mine with sales of gold bars, as a survey found that some warehouses are unable to keep them on shelves. Bloomberg found that 77% of the 101 stores it surveyed in the first week of October had sold out of the bars,

Costco began selling the gold bars last September for about $2,000 each to its rewards members. In late January, it started offering one-ounce silver coins in a pack of 25 for $675. Most recently, the retailer has started selling one-ounce platinum bars for $1,089.99.

Costco is bringing gold buying to the masses by offering prices that undercut traditional precious metals dealers.

Move over, gas and hot dogs. Costco shoppers are snatching up the store’s 1-ounce gold bars despite the market’s lofty price for the precious metal.
