DIY Budget Friendly Custom Wood Fence Part 3: Creating a Custom Gate We framed the fence gate by making a box out of pressure treated 2x4 to the opening size, added a diagonal strip of 2x4 on the inside of the gate for stability, added a few horizontal pickets to the front of the gate, attached the hinges to the posts, and hung the gate then finished attaching the rest of the pickets.
