2005年10月14日 · I have recently installed a vapor barrier of 6 mil polyethylene sheeting on the dirt floor of my crawl space. I have wrapped the sheeting up the concrete block walls about 12″, and I would like to seal the top edge of it to the walls with some type of caulk or adhesive.

2023年6月21日 · I’m not sure it is a practical concern, but I am concerned using a poly sheet barrier could up bulk water on the underside, which could lead to water near the sole plate of pre-existing partition walls and longer term issues. Maybe there are some self-adhered vapor barrier products that would manage the wet layer concerns. Thanks in advance.

2022年10月31日 · It looks like this product isn't "acoustical sealant", which is good for your application. Regular acoustical sealant/caulk is intended to stay gooey forever, so it never cures to a solid the way normal caulk does. The side effect of that is that it stays gooey, sticky, and messy forever, and it can't be used to glue things.

2023年3月22日 · I tried to find a good way to seal around pipes sticking out of the basement floor but ended up using Stego tape and mastic and the result was absolutely horrendous. why bother laying out this perfect, clean Stego branded vapor barrier poly when the penetrations around the pipes are going to be a mess?

I’m in Minnesota, so I bought a Membrain smart vapor barrier that I will install between the insulation and drywall. I’ve read and watched a lot of things online regarding installing vapor barriers. It seems most people recommend using an accoustical sealant with VBs.

Acoustical sealant can work for this but I read on a barrier supplier’s website that a polyethylene should not be used with an acoustical sealant. This is for material called Tenoarm.

2022年7月4日 · As rule of thumb the (blue) tuck-tape gets used to join the vapour barrier and for larger penetrations, while acoustical sealant goes where the VB meets another material. So tape on seams, sealant around the RO of windows and the intersection of the floor and walls.

2013年12月31日 · Hi, I have new electrical outlet boxes with the integral vapor barrier and foam seal strip around them. Do I need to tuck tape the poly to these foam seals, or is the pressure of the Sheetrock enough to seal? Secondly, at the recessed lights (I have IC lights), do I need to tuck tape the vapor barrier to the foam seal strip or again is the Sheetrock enough to seal the barrier? Thanks

There is a concrete floor and the area is considered part of the house. The exterior is painted cedar over 'tar paper' and then plywood.
