I don't know how true it is, but I'd also heard stories that since Let It Be was the final Beatles album, a red Apple was used to signify that the Apple was "ripe," so to speak.

But, the cd does not sound great. Its louder and more compressed than the 1987 or 2009 CD of the original "Let it Be" album.
