Southern Pacific GS-4 No. 4446 was a Southern Pacific GS-4 4-8-4 "Northern" type steam locomotive built by the Lima Locomotive Works in Lima, Ohio. It was among one of the 28 Southern Pacific Class GS-4 s delivered to the Southern Pacific Railroad .

Southern Pacific 4449, also known as the Daylight, is the only surviving example of Southern Pacific Railroad 's GS-4 class of 4-8-4 Northern type steam locomotives and one of only two streamlined GS class locomotives preserved, the other being GS-6 No. 4460 at the National Museum of Transportation in St. Louis, Missouri.
SP 4449 - History
In 1984, 4449 pulled an all Daylight-painted train from Portland to New Orleans, Louisiana and back, to publicize the World's Fair. The 7,477-mile (12,033 km) round trip was the longest steam train excursion in US history. In 1986, 4449 went to Hollywood to appear in Tough Guys, and pulled business trains for the Southern Pacific.

On Saturday, December 10, 2005 the SP&S 700 steam locomotive, operated by the Pacific Railroad Preservation Association, derailed while double-heading (with the SP 4449 on the point) a "Holiday Express" excursion for the Oregon Rail Heritage Foundation (ORHF).
