Feb 18, 2016 · The only way to get a legit shiny Mew was in Emerald, where the event item Old Sea Map unlocks Faraway Island and you can then run away from Mew until finding a shiny one. If it says it's from Hoenn and does not have the sixth gen pentagon, the Mew COULD be legit, but in all likelihood isn't. Ugh, it does have a blue pentagon.

It is possible that when you encounter a shiny mew, it can use metronome to end the battle - which is just a case of bad luck, however it could happen so come prepared! A shiny Mew could be obtained in Pokemon Go as part of the Kanto Tour event. Neither of those would be in a Cherish Ball, and neither of those would say they came from Kalos.
