2009年4月20日 · Pre cat lacquer topcoats over veneer:smile: I restore a good number of vintage wood radio cabinets most of which use veneer which is necessary to replace frequently. I use a latex contact cement with good success. I only use lacquer based finishes but use a vinyl lacquer based sanding sealer which seems to increase leveling and adhesion.

2009年10月5日 · Generally speaking, good Pre-cat lacquer does not require a sealer, but if you must, do not use a nitro based sealer under Pre-Cat lacquer. You will have to use a vinyl sanding sealer. The vinyl is also a much better moisture barrier and is used on table tops. Also what is a proper thinning ratio for pre-cat lacquer being used with an HVLP system?

A water based lacquer takes so many more coats and elbow grease to get the job done it isn't worth it. All you really is a chemical respirator to safely spray pre-cat. Save.

2023年10月25日 · You can buff the finish without spraying it to make it shiny. Or you can spray a higher gloss coat on there. But it's never going to look like the higher gloss would if it was sprayed on 1st. Proper finishing you usually stick with gloss until the final coat and then spray your sheen coat. I don't do it very often.

I have a cheap phalanx brand hvlp sprayer I got from Amazon along with a large spray tent and all the protective gear. I tried getting pre cat lacquer from sherwin Williams but the one near me doesn’t carry it so I got some minwax brushing lacquer (gloss) and thinner.

2021年3月11日 · Personally i use a Sherwin Williams pre-cat lacquer, works fantastically and its a lot more durable than the regular nitrocellulose stuff, without being much more difficult to work with. Shorter shelf-life though, and you have to remember to clean your gun cause once the catalyst goes off, that stuff is pretty well stuck to whatever its on.

2016年4月11日 · You can spray brushing lacquer. It just dries slower than the lacquer from sherwin williams so you will have to be more careful with runs. Since it has a lot of retarder thinner in it, it would be less likely to blush in humid weather. The brushing lacquer is a type know as nitrocellulose lacquer. It is made from dissolving cotton in nitric acid.
