A question to those who did not enjoy The Return : r/twinpeaks
Twin Peaks was originally way more than just Frost and Lynch. There were tons of other writers, directors, and producers that all had a part in shaping the story. And that’s what Twin Peaks was. So the return being exclusively Frost and Lynch means it is not the same as the original series.

2022年3月12日 · Ontkean was approached to reprise his role as Sheriff Truman for the 2017 revival of Twin Peaks. At first, Ontkean was reportedly excited about returning to the role, and enlisted Twin Peaks authority Brad Dukes to help him find the jacket which his character once wore on the show. Dukes located a suitable replica, bought it and sent it to Ontkean.

2022年3月30日 · The Return is cool as an 18 hour David Lynch movie, but its really not a great continuation of Twin Peaks. There's some essential quality in the original series and even in Fire Walk With Me (perhaps due to its proximity to the original series and Robert Engels' involvement?) that The Return just lacks.

When the return aired, serialized tv was the norm now. Shows like Lost, Heroes, prison break and others like that were already airing to huge audiences with the “long movie” format. Twin peaks the return literally could exist in a format like that because of the trailblazing that twin peaks had on the television industry.

However, the Twin Peaks scripts are a combination of the continuity lists and dialogue. It's very interesting to read, although there seem to be a lot of mistakes like suddenly calling Dr. Jacoby Dr. Hayward and the like.

I am finally through what I consider to be one of the most remarkable seasons of television I have ever seen. I let the whole brilliant season stew for a few days and have found that Part 8 has stuck to me like no other episode of television ever has.
What does this sub think about Twin Peaks: The Return?
And, after thinking it about it nonstop, I’ve come to the conclusion that the hopeless, stomach turning feel is intentional. IMO you used the key-word to understanding all of Twin Peaks in your comment: balance. I read Twin Peaks as another Lynch work that meditates on the importance of balance - right and wrong, good and evil.
