Even when speed ratings were introduced 40 years ago - and tires were pretty bad back then - it was uncommon for a tire not to make an S rating. The exceptions are winter tires (for obvious reasons) and the larger tires needed for pickups - LT metrics, for example.

2008年3月24日 · I had 2 tires go flat. When I went in to the local chain tire store the told me that the manufacturer recommended tires with a speed rating of H. I’ve always used S or R tires because I don’t plan on going over 100mph. Do I need to go along with the manufacturers recommendation or am I safe with the cheaper R’s or S’s? (note: the car is a 4Dr 2000 VW Golf GL if that makes a difference)

On my previous cars, I’ve always had Uniroyal Tiger Paw touring tires because I love how they ride. I found the same tire size for my Sonata. However it has a different speed rating…95T.

2010年12月16日 · T-rated tires are rated for 118mph which means that theoretically you could exceed the tire’s speed capabilities with that car. Now, since you know you won’t drive that fast, it’s fine to put T-rated tires on there as long as you follow Andrew’s advice and make sure the load capacity is still good enough.

This is a common O.E. tire, we sell these often. The Bridgestone Turanza Serenity Plus has a V speed rating, UTQG 600AA and 12/32" tread for a few dollars less.

That said, I might go for T if I drove extensively on the freeway, with a load (family trip, say). Higher speed ratings mean better heat tolerance.
