There's no doubt Versabond, or any entry level modified mortar will bond these 12x24 porcelain tiles, but you should be using a medium-bed mortar instead. Larger tiles, especially those requiring the use of 1/2" notched trowel, are liable to droop when set into regular thin set.

If your trowel has square slots, then when you squish the thinset down with the tile, the valleys will go away and thinset will fill in everywhere. That means a 1/2" trowel will leave 1/4" of full thinset. That assumes you troweled with your hand at exactly a 90 degree angle.

2009年10月7日 · White is far easier to work with and stickier. Look, the answer is simple. Grey is fine for exterior applications, Mexican pavers and the like, or tiling floors. White is a finer sand which make for a much stickier thinset that trowels on the wall much more easily, without half of it dropping onto the floor.

2012年5月7日 · For thinset, I'd stick w/ a medium bed thinset (like the one Jaz recommended earlier in this thread, that's what I used), and a 1/2" trowel I think would suffice. You might need to step up to one size larger than 1/2", as the tiles are huge, but at least a 1/2" trowel.

Ask about easy of use (assuming this is a new project) and proper trowel to use. The groove spacing makes a difference so, again, ask the tile people. Good luck and welcome to the site.

2019年10月9日 · Hi, It can vary a bit depending on how it's mixed, but I think around 1/4" or perhaps 5/16". You should use this trowel with ceramic/porcelain that are 12" or so. However, the backs of the tiles must be known too. The thickness of the thinset after the tiles are set must be a min. of 3/32 but can be a little thicker. So, 3/32-1/8" is common.
