2010年10月22日 · Attached garage not finished except ceiling and walls adjacent to house. I would like to insulate and drywall the walls. The ceiling is not insulated and does not have vapor barrier installed. Do I need vapor barrier in ceiling? I will not be heating in winter, live in Wisconsin so summers can be hot and winters can cold. Any suggestions?

2024年6月8日 · No vapor barrier. Install a vapor retarder. Certainteed Membrane is the least expensive. Install this first, then the finished ceiling. Cut attic access into an outside gable (make an door), and blow in cellulose after the ceiling is finished. You'll need baffles near the eaves, soffit vents and a ridge vent.

2024年11月24日 · The vapor barrier (on the wrong side) would make it more difficult for any moisture to dry towards the low-humidity area. In reality your garage is probably a little warmer than outdoors and the sub-floor and oak floor is possibly a fair (?) vapor retarder, so not having a vapor barrier on the proper "warm-in-winter" side might not be so bad.

2024年9月24日 · With plastic on a wall or ceiling, poor (as is typical) detailing will allow moisture to migrate into an assembly but, in a nutshell, not out. At least to the inside. Certainteed Membrane and Intello Plus are vapor retarders that allow assemblies to dry to the interior- both effective air and moisture barriers. This, however, is a garage.

2024年10月19日 · You can only get condensation if interior air his a cold surface. If you have R60 between the vapor barrier and the cold, I don't see how condensation would form on the vapor barrier. Painted drywall is going to be rather vapor permeable anyways. In my house, the pros put the VP above the steel channel.

2009年12月15日 · I will attach a diagram of what it looks like, but the floor of the room above the garage is spray foamed from below. There is then an open space that is essentially attic. The drywall ceiling in the grarage is not insulated and there is no vapor barrier. I did an inspection last year and it's bone dry up there.
