Several homes and businesses, as well as Welkom fire station, were damaged as a tornado ripped through the Free State town.

"The storm which prompted the warning has weakened below severe limits, and no longer appears capable of producing a tornado.

Officials are assessing the damage after a strong storm system moved across the south over the weekend, spawning tornadoes and killing at least four people.
