Microsoft has announced significant improvements to the Windows update process with the release of Windows 11s version 24H2. The operating system now features a more streamlined approach to processing update components, which Microsoft says is both faster and less resource-intensive.

Earlier this month, the massive 2024 update to Windows 11 arrived with lots of new features and improvements along with several removed features and apps. One of the many pain points of that update was just how long it took to install on most PCs.

Version 24H2 started rolling out earlier this month with lots of useful improvements, but now Microsoft is revealing this big update also reduces install time, restart time, and even CPU usage for monthly Windows updates.

The optional October update for Windows 11 version 24H2 adds new Copilot key settings and a Gamepad keyboard layout for the Windows on-screen keyboard.

Microsoft has managed to cut Windows 11 24H2 update install times by nearly half, using smarter tech to deliver faster updates and smoother reboots.
