Chennedy Carter officially became an unrestricted free agent when the Chicago Sky opted not to extend a qualifying offer to her by the Jan. 20 deadline.
The Phoenix Mercury finished last season with a 19-21 record but still made the playoffs as the No. 7 seed. However, the Mercury were swept by the Minnesota Lynx in the first round.
