NL batting champion Luis Arraez of the San Diego Padres had surgery to repair a torn ligament in his left thumb

Arraez originally injured his thumb June 25. He was advised during the All-Star break that he did not require in-season surgery.

A a team spokesman said Luis Arraez is expected to resume hitting in about eight weeks and should be fully healthy for the start of spring training.
