Last positive sighting of Kyran was in 2022, and missing persons case has been upgraded to a murder investigation

Ireland's police chief has said the suspected murder of an eight-year-old boy is an "extraordinary" case unlike any he's seen in his 40-year career. A murder investigation began last week after Kyran Durnin and his mother were reported missing on 30 August.

The eight-year-old boy was reported missing around six weeks ago but Gardaí now believe he was last seen over two years ago.

Gardaí have ended searches at the former home of missing schoolboy and suspected murder victim, Kyran Durnin. Investigators said they have completed the searches of the property and adjoining lands in Dundalk, Co Louth.

Kyran Durnin was reported missing in Drogheda at the end of August. The terraced property being searched in Dundalk - about 20 miles north of Drogheda - was the family's home for several years until May 2024,

Kyran was reported missing from his home on 30 August but gardaí believe the child vanished some months before that.
