博伊西是美国爱达荷州的首府，也是该州最大的城市及埃达县的县治，另外又是博伊西都会区、别称宝藏谷的中心城市。 博伊西在《美国新闻与世界报道》2024年发布的“美国最适合居住的城市”排名中位居第二。 博伊西的名字由来始于最先到此探索的陷阱捕兽者，他们在跨越一片干旱地区后发现了这片遍布棉白杨的河边地方，于是给了这个地方“boisé”的名称，意思为“多树的”；因为这个原因，博伊西后来即被称做树城。 原本的博伊西堡位于现今城市西方40英哩，在博伊西河靠近与蛇河汇流的下游处、俄勒冈州的边境。这个堡垒起先是由哈得逊湾公司在1830年代时设立，但在1850年代时被遗弃。在俄勒冈小径上不时发生的屠杀事件迫使美国陆军于1863年南北战争时在附近重新设立一个堡垒。这个新地点被选择的原因是第一，它靠近俄勒冈小径，再来则是靠近通往博伊西盆地与欧喜采矿区这两个当时正在蓬勃发展地方的道路。爱达荷市是这个地方起先最大的城市，但博伊西堡、做为爱达荷市的前置地方、迅速成长，随即博伊西市政府于1864年成立。爱达荷州的第一个州府位于刘易斯顿，不过州府于1865年迁至博伊西。
